The mission of the Hampshire County MRC is to build strong, healthy, prepared and resilient communities with an organized group of medical and non-medical volunteers to support local public health needs. Our volunteers support the community by assisting with emergency sheltering needs, mass vaccination efforts, and planned events. We also offer high quality trainings at no cost to our volunteers such as: MRC orientation, CPR, First Aid, Stop the Bleed, Narcan administration, and Incident Command System. These trainings will provide our volunteers with the skills to respond to a medical emergency and keep our community safe.
The Hampshire County MRC was established in 2008 and our diverse group of 1400 volunteers provides support to all 20 communities within 545 square miles. Since many of the local communities are located in rural areas with limited staff, supplies and funds to respond to public health emergencies, the local communities rely heavily on support from our organization. We pride ourselves on developing and maintaining strong partnerships and working collaboratively with local response organizations including: The 5 College Consortium, Cooley Dickinson Hospital, local police and fire departments, social service agencies, faith-based organizations, school districts, and Community Health Centers. We also collaborate with the UMass Amherst Nursing Program and they have embedded the MRC program into their curriculum.
