Five Safety Programs for Residents of
Northampton, Florence, and Leeds
1. Sand for Seniors
Members of TRIAD (Northampton Fire Rescue, Northampton Police Department, Hampshire County Sheriff's Office, Northampton Senior Services, and Northwestern District Attorney’s Office) will be out in the community delivering buckets of sand to prevent slips and falls during the winter months. Call the Northampton Senior Center (413-587-1228) to get on the “bucket list.”
2. Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Batteries
Northampton Fire Rescue recommends changing your smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector batteries twice a year, when you change your clock in the spring and fall. The department has a program to provide free smoke detectors and batteries to older adult residents. To learn more, call 413-587-1081 or email jbousquet@northamptonma.gov
3. Residential Lockbox Program
This TRIAD program assists firefighters and emergency service personnel in gaining rapid entry into your home in the event of an emergency, saving time and property by eliminating the need for forced entry. Lockboxes are distributed free of charge and installed by Northampton Fire Rescue personnel. To learn more, call 413-587-1021, email jbousquet@northamptonma.gov, or learn about the program here: https://www.northamptonma.gov/2440/Residential-Lockbox-Program
4. House Numbering Program
House number signs are an important part of a quick response from our city’s first responders. Northampton Senior Services in partnership with Northampton Fire Rescue and the Hampshire County Sheriff's Department, is continuing to offer the House Numbering Sign Program to Northampton residents of any age. The red sign has a four-inch reflective number on both sides, is attached to a five-foot metal stake, and is installed so that it’s clearly visible from the street.
All house number sign requests must be submitted at the Northampton Senior Center, 67 Conz Street, Northampton, MA 01060. There is a fee of $5 to cover the cost of the sign. To obtain one, download, print, and complete the application at https://northamptonma.gov/DocumentCenter/View/12948/New-House-Number-Program-Revised-12-2020
